Meralco Bolts Completes Roster With 3 New Imports

The Meralco Bolts have now completed the assembly of a competitive roster when it locks horns in the Basketball Champions League Asia next month. The team is allowed to bring in three imports and nine locals in the tournament.

Too cover all bases, the team is set to add Jordon Varnado, John Egbunu and Glynn Watson as it braces for a tough group campaign from 7 June to 13 June.

Varnado is already familiar with BCL play, having played for the Promitheas Patras BC Vikos Cola in the tournament’s 2024-25 edition.

The 6-foot-8 American averaged 10.5 points, 4.2 rebounds and 1.5 assists.

Egbunu shores up Meralco’s frontline composed of Cliff Hodge, Raymond Almazan and Norbert Torres.

Before agreeing to play for the Bolts in the club tournament, the 6-foot-11 Nigerian played for the Napoli Basket of Italy’s Lega Basket Serie A.

Completing the trio of imports is Watson.

The Nebraska alumnus last played for French club BCM Gravelines-Dunkerque.

Apart from that, he also donned the Telkom Baskets Bonn jersey in the 2023 FIBA Intercontinental Cup in Singapore where he normed 14.7 points, four rebounds and 5.7 assists.

They join a local crew that also has the likes of stars Chris Newsome, Chris Banchero, CJ Cansino and Bong Quinto.

The PBA Philippine Cup reigning titlist opens its campaign this Saturday, against Gulf League champion Shabab Al Ahli.
