Bolts 87, Shabab 101

Bolts BCL Game 1
Meralco fizzled out in the second half and ultimately bowed to Shabab Al Ahli, 87-101, in a rough start to its Basketball Champions League Asia 2025 campaign last 7 June at the Sheikh Saeed Bin Maktoum Sports Hall in Dubai.

The Bolts overcame a slow start and erected a 54-43 lead during the second period but the home team chipped away the deficit slowly before seizing control again come the third canto.

The PBA representatives could no longer regroup, with Deshawndre Washington and Jeremiah Love knockingf down crucial hits in the final period to lead the FIBA WASL-Gulf League champions in completing the rally.

"I'm so proud of how we reacted in the second half," coach Miodrag Perisic said. "D-Wash led us, he was really, today, super involved playing defense and offense. I used 11 players in this game and everybody played their roles. I'm very happy."

Washington finished with 40 points for the host team, making 12 of his 20 field goals. Love added 22 points in what eventually became a comfortable win.

Jordon Varnado and Glynn Watson had 19 apiece to lead Meralco, who needs to beat Utsunomiya Brex 24 hours from now to stay alive in the playoffs.
