The Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) decided last 12 October to extend the deadline for 2016 Rookie Draft applicants from 14 October to 19 October. The extension was made after the league and the PBA and Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) are still hashing out issues regarding the Gilas cadets,
The five-day extension is a huge boost for the players as both parties expect to find a compromise through a series of meetings this coming week.
"With the PBA and the SBP yet to finalize the policy and treatment of Gilas cadets in relation to the coming PBA Rookie Draft, the Commissioner’s Office has reset the deadline for submission of applications to 19 October 2016," said deputy commissioner Rickie Santos.
As of 12 October, 26 players have already declared for the Draft.
Some of the notable names who have expressed their intention to turn pro are NU playmaker Gelo Alolino, FEU bruiser Carl Bryan Cruz, JRU shooter Paolo Pontejos, and Fil-Ams Rashawn McCarthy and Ryan Arambulo.
The 2016 PBA Rookie Draft will still be held on 30 October 2016.
