The question that many Meralco Bolts fans are asking may be answered later when the team takes on the NLEX Road Warriors.
There are no assurances at this time, except that prolific import Josh Davis suffered no broken bone following his harrowing fall during the team’s out-of-town game against San Miguel Beermen on 21 February. That in itself is already a good sign.
Unfortunately, the team and their fans are still clueless on when the 6-foot-8 Davis could return to action.
MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) done on Davis, according to team manager Paolo Trillo showed no serious injury or any tear on his ligaments after a bad fall when he bit off a fake by San Miguel big man June Mar Fajardo during the second quarter of the PBA Commissioner’s Cup road game between the Bolts and Beermen in Cagayan De Oro.
"That’s the good news, no broken bone or anything," said Trillo. "But we’re still observing him. The doctor’s diagnosis is severe muscle contusion," added the Meralco official.
"It’s a matter of how fast he can recover because Josh is still in pain at the lower back. We don’t know how serious the injury is, and that will depend on his recovery."
There are some queries on whether Fajardo deliberately tried to hurt the hard-working import after the Beermen failed to win their 4 previous assignments where they were convincingly outplayed by the other team’s import. Taking Davis out is already a battle half-won by the Beermen.
The Bolts won’t play until Friday opposite NLEX, although Trillo couldn’t guarantee if the import could already play.
Davis was carried out on a stretcher but refused to be taken to the hospital, according to PBA media bureau chief Willie Marcial. He returned to the Meralco bench after halftime and wanted to continue playing, but was prevailed upon by Norman Black and his coaching staff.
Without Davis, the Bolts suffered their first defeat in the tournament, 102-86, after winning their first five games. The Beermen on the other hand, finally made it to the win column after losing four straight games to start the mid-season conference.
Davis is averaging 23.2 points and 19.6 rebounds in five games. Against San Miguel, he finished with four points and five rebounds in 14 minutes of action.

UPDATE:
Despite Josh Davis suffering a deep bone bruise to his backside during their last game, Meralco coach Norman Black said that he has no plans of finding a replacement for the injured import.
"You can’t replace a good import like Josh Davis," Black told InterAksyon.com in a telephone interview.
"We’re gonna play him tomorrow (27 February 2015)."
