Bolts 105, Fiberxers 84

CJ Cansino
PBA Sophomore CJ Cansino extended his string of stellar games for Meralco on Sunday night (14 December) as the Bolts zoomed past Converge, 105-84, in the PBA Philippine Cup at Ynares Sports Center in Antipolo.

Cansino finished with a career-high 29 points and helped the Bolts join Converge and NLEX at 6-4, good for fifth spot as the chase for final rankings in the playoffs hit fever pitch in the next playdates.

"CJ is stepping up. What was good for him is he was playing defense well, too," coach Luigi Trillo said. "He was exceptional."

Cansino finished with a career-high of 29 points with five rebounds to match.

"This game is so important for me. I even got to help my team because we had a bad start," the second year guard out of University of the Philippines said. "This game will be really helpful for the playoffs so hopefully, we keep this up."

Cliff Hodge was also huge for Meralco after tallying 18 points, while Aaron Black did a little bit of everything with 16 points, eight rebounds and five assists.

"Aside from CJ, these are the guys who helped us out as well," added Trillo.

Converge suffered a second straight loss and fell to a three-way tie with NLEX and Meralco at 6-4.

Rookie sensation Juan Gomez de Liano finished with 27 points and tried to carry the fight for the FiberXers, who trailed by as many as 69-38 in the third period, a deficit that was too big to overcome.

The Bolts will have the San Miguel Beermen as their last assignment before wrapping up the elimination round.
