Kurt Reyson Gives Meralco Plenty Of Reason To Be Confident

Kurt Reyson
Meralco Bolts freshman guard Kurt Reyson is proving to be a steal for the Bolts as the former Letran stalwart is showing he’s not afraid to take the big shots in a big game like against the vaunted San Miguel Beermen last 9 April. The Beermen won in that retro game against Meralco, 110-98, to cap a huge 50th anniversary celebration for the PBA.

Despite the loss, the Bolts are confident that they have found another gem. Reyson had 14 points on 6-of-12 shooting from the floor including one from the four-point line – the second in his young PBA career.

A three-time NCAA champion with the Knights and MPBL champion with the Pampanga Giant Lanterns, Reyson is a welcome addition to a loaded and talented Meralco backcourt led by Chris Newsome.

Reyson was taken 23rd overall in the second round of the 2024 PBA Draft.

"I got picked by the defending (All-Filipino) champion and it feels double pressure," said Reyson in Filipino after the draft.

"Meralco has a lot of scorers already, they’re loaded. So I’ll just do what they want me to, even in defense, I’ll just follow it."

"I hope to bring my winning habit. I’ve won championships in the NCAA and the amateur leagues. Now, I’m here on a champion team so I’ll be ready to show what I’m capable of," said Reyson.

He also teams up with fellow Knights in Bong Quinto and Raymond Almazan.

"I didn’t expect to join my Kuyas, alumni of Letran plus they’re Meralco legends now. I hope to learn a lot from them so I can bring a lot more."

With his humble attitude, Reyson deserves all the accolades at the Meralco Bolts. It will be a waste if the team doesn't utilize his skills and sign him to a long-term conttract.
