Absence Of PBA LiveStats Could Lead To Declining Followers

PBA Advisory
For several months now, there were no available statistics pposted in the PBA website (www.pba.ph/playbyplay). The only explanation reported to the media was that the missing live stats is due to a software incompatibility with the new 4-point shot rule introduced in the league.

The IBA LiveStats does not have the functionality to accurately track and display 4-point shots, while the PBA is using a different software to account for them, says a statement from SPIN.ph's Reuben Terrado.

This means that the decision to incorporate the 4-point shot rule created a technical challenge for the PBA live stats platform, specifically their use of IBA LiveStats. While the PBA teams have adapted to the new scoring system, the software used for live game tracking and statistics hasn't been able to keep up. For fans who rely on the PBA website for real-time game data this is a big letdown.

The gap in service has put those who have difficulty viewing the games live on televsion or through live streaming in a dificult situation. Will this result to the continued decline of the PBA in the country? Most likely.

Without a doubt, the PBA Livestats has helped the league penetrate the growing social media market and reach out further to its millions of fans.

The previous software was created and continually being developed to by an Australian company Sporting Pulse International, Livestats is the FIBA-designated standard for statistics-gathering and database management in FIBA events and other basketball games which is currently being used in more than 200 countries.

Whoever thought of the 4-point play did not think far enough to realize that their will be a glitch or incompatibility with the software use in many parts of the world. It isolates the league in its effort to make it fan friendly and generate excitement.
