The basketball window of Meralco is still wide open for Suleiman Braimoh to come back after exiting last year due to an injury. Bolts coach Luigi Trillo said a few months ago that they would love to bring back Braimoh for another tour of duty in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA).
He said the 6-foot-8 Braimoh is a big gem of an import. In fact, he was doing pretty well until tearing his Achilles tendon halfway through the 2023 Commissioner's Cup eliminations.
Braimoh, who went down with the injury in the game against NLEX last December 2023 which the Bolts won, 97-93, finished with 38 points and eight rebounds in leading the team to a 4-1 record. In 5 games, he posted solid averages of 32.8 points and 12 rebounds.
In his first game in the league, Braimoh tallied a monster stat line of 34 points, 14 rebounds, three assists, two steals, and two blocks.
After the game, the 34-year-old cager out of Rice University in the US bared the mindset he has while suiting up for the Bolts.
"It’s a challenge but I’m looking forward to a good season," Braimoh said as quoted by the PBA’s official website.
According to Trillo, his import is a special talent in more ways than one.
"Su leads by example. He’s a great character guy and he’s not just coachable but a leader (as well)," Coach Luigi claimed.
After the Bolts hired a new reinforcement in Shonn Miller, instead of catching the first flight out of the country, Braimoh stayed behind and cheered for his teammates as they made a run into the Commissioner’s Cup playoffs.
In their quarterfinal match against Phoenix Super LPG, Braimoh was spotted giving Miller some inputs using the vast experience he gained from competing around the world.
