With their standing secured in the group stage, the Mealco Bolts went into cruise control and secured another win with a 124-82 rout over Terrafirma on 21 September in the PBA Governors’ Cup at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
The Bolts finished the eliminations with a 7-3 win-loss record to cement the No. 2 seed of Group B in the quarterfinals after the 42-point blowout win.
Despite the trades early in the season, the Dyip still ended their conference with a 1-9 win-loss slate.
With the result already settled early in the game after leading, 34-15, at the end of the first quarter, Meralco got a chance to field its second stringers with Alvin Pasaol scoring 21 points to lead the team.
Rookie CJ Cansino also had another notable outing by adding 15 points, three days after hitting a career mark of 21 against Converge.
The Bolts also took advantage of the absence of key players from the Dyip side with Stanley Pringle, who led their team in what became the team’s lone victory in the conference, out for the match.
"I thought we were also sharp but if you think about it, there’s no Stan (Standhardinger), no Pringle, they’ve got a lot of injuries. But we were pretty solid all around. Whoever came in contributed. In fairness to the team, they were sharp," said Meralco coach Luigi Trillo.
Allen Durham had 14 points and seven rebounds, Raymar Jose added 12, and Brandon Bates chipped in 11 points and seven rebounds for the Bolts.
