OneSports reported that the 22-strong delegation of Team Philippines will officially begin its campaign in the Olympic Games Paris 2024 after participating in the opening ceremonies in Paris, France, on Saturday, 27 July 2024.
Fencer Samantha Catantan; gymnasts Aleah Finnegan, Emma Malabuyo, and Levi Jung-Ruivivar; swimmers Kayla Sanchez and Jarod Hatch; tracksters Lauren Hoffman and John Cabang Tolentino; as well as boxers Carlo Paalam, Nesthy Petecio, and Hergie Bacyadan took part in the grand opening ceremony.
Philippine Olympic Committee President Bambol Tolentino, Chef de Mission Jonvic Remulla, and Gymnastics Association of the Philippines President Cynthia Carrion were also present for Team Philippines.
It took a while before the Philippines had its spotlight while going around the Seine River, but that didn’t stop the Olympians from having fun while in the boat even with the rains.
As the Philippine name was called, Petecio and Paalam raised the flag high and mighty while the entire delegation waved to the hundreds of thousands of spectators.
The Filipino athletes wore an eye-catching design uniforms. Filipino designer Francis Libiran created a stunning signage barong uniform, a traditional embroidered formal shirt, and the male national dress of the Philippines to celebrate Filipino culture while incorporate the country's flag. The barong includes a detachable silk sling with embroidered sun rays and warrior patterns.
