TNT and returning coach Chot Reyes stayed perfect through five games in the PBA Philippine Cup, bamboozling Meralco in the first half en route to a 91-76 win at the DHVSU Gym last 3 September.
The Tropang Giga rode the momentum of their 96-76 rout of Blackwater two days before, zooming to a 54-26 halftime spread and leading by as many as 30 before thwarting the Bolts' comeback bid in the second half.
Top rookie Mikey Williams once again led the scoring parade with RR Pogoy and Jason Castro also having their big productions as the Tropang Giga remained on the run ahead of another big game against the Magnolia Hotshots.
"Hopefully, Troy Rosario's injury is not too severe that he'll be able to play Sunday," said TNT coach Chot Reyes.
Rosario twisted his right ankle early in the fourth and failed to return, ending up with nine rebounds, four points and two assists in 29 minutes of action.
But his early exit hardly mattered anymore, with Williams, Pogoy, Castro, Poy Erram, Glenn Khobuntin and Kelly Williams taking care of business.
Mikey Williams erupted for 27 points, Pogoy sizzled with 20 and Castro added 14 as TNT went back-to-back in the Bacolor play while foiling Meralco's bid for the same.
The Tropang Giga gave the Bolts no chance of repeating their come-from-behind win over the Magnolia Hotshots Wednesday and handed Meralco a second loss against five wins.
"We knew their ability to come back, and the key was our ability to stay patient facing their pressure defense as they tried to come back in the second half," said the TNT coach.
"It's very important. We talked about it at halftime," Reyes added.
