PBA Board Decided To Go Hard Against Draft Dodgers

PBA Draft Dodgers
A five-year sit-out period, but with a provision to enter a special lottery, is set to be imposed by the PBA on players who will opt to not join the draft during the time of his eligibility.

The new rule, announced during the 24th July press conference, is one of the revisions the PBA approved following recommendations made by a study group to look into the rules of the league.

One of the key rule changes covers applicants who opt not to enter the draft during the year of eligibility.

Under the new rules, a player who decided not to enter the draft will have to wait for five years before he can file another application for the regular PBA draft proceedings.

The player can be accepted within the first three years of that five-year period, but will be included in a not in the regular draft but a special lottery that includes the 12 PBA teams.

The rule was made amid the decision of other players such as Thirdy Ravena to skip the PBA draft to pursue a career overseas.
