Despite the influx of high-quality players, the Meralco Bolts should be lucky to get an exceptional pick at number 9 in the PBA draft. However, it seems Lady luck was indeed in Meralco's side this time after they added Alvin Pasaol to its lineup.
Bolts team manager Paolo Trillo, head coach Norman Black, and do-it-all swingman Chris Newsome were on hand for the selection of the burly forward in the 2021 PBA Online Draft.
All throughout his career, the burly 6-foot-2 forward has had a reputation as an elite scorer.
Derrick Pumaren discovered Pasaol during a Filoil game that pitted UE against Holy Cross College of Davao back in 2015.
He spent two years in UE, where he averaged 20.6 points, 7.1 boards, 1.6 dimes, and 1.7 steals during his second season. In his final year, he raised his numbers to 24.4 points, 11.0 rebounds, and 1.9 steals per contest, earning him a spot in the All-UAAP Season 81 team.
Pasaol did not take his final year, instead focusing on Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas 3×3, where he became a two-time champion.
Pasaol also played for Bataan and Zamboanga in the MPBL.
The 25-year-old is currently the second-ranked 3×3 player in the country. Ironically, Jushua Munzon, who was picked first, is the top-ranked 3x3 player.
The Bolts also selected John Yasa as their 33rd pick and Luis Brill for their 45th pick.
