Former Barako Bull import Allen Durham will debut for the Meralco Bolts in the opening day of the 2016 PBA Governors’ Cup on 15 July.
Durham is looking to lead the Bolts when they take on the Phoenix Fuel Masters at 4:15 p.m. at Smart Araneta Coliseum. Expected to provide support Durham are the Bolts veteran players, including Reynel Hugnatan, Jared Dillinger, Cliff Hodge and Jimmy Alapag.
Coach Norman Black also expects rookies Chris Newsome and Baser Amer to continue their impressive showing last conference and provide the much needed firepower from the bench.
The Bolts are also still awaiting the arrival of Mohammad Jamshidi who was tapped as the team’s Asian import after the Iranian national team played an exhibition game against Gilas Pilipinas recently.
"It's his versatility which I think will be his biggest contribution to team," team manager Paolo Trillo said about Jamshidi. "He can play different positions and could play well on both ends of the floor. He has good ball handling skills, too."
Jamshidi did not participate in the Bolts practice because he had to join the Iranian team that lost in their campaign for an Olympic spot in Turin, Italy a few days ago. The 24-year old forward averaged 11.0 points and 3.5 assists in their two losses to Greece and Mexico.
Meanwhile, the partial schedule of games released by the PBA runs up to 30 July only, with one out-of-town game scheduled in Lucena City pitting Ginebra against Meralco. Check it out below:
