Two-time league Most Valuable Player Danny Ildefonso has placed his retirement plans on hold following his talk with Meralco Bolts coach Norman Black last 8 July.
Ildefonso, whose 17th season in the PBA ended with a quarterfinal loss to his former team San Miguel Beer, said Black told him "not to close the door on playing another season".
"Positive naman ang usapan. Nagpasalamat si coach for a good season dahil maganda rin naman nangyari sa amin, pero sinabi niya sa akin, narinig nga niyang may plano na ako mag-retire, so ang sabi lang niya, 'please don't close the door'," Ildefonso told Philstar.com on Thursday, before his workout at the Meralco gym.
The 6-foot-5 Ildefonso said he’s happy with his stay with the Bolts for the past two seasons, where he has played a back-up role at the front court currently manned by undersized big man Reynel Hugnatan and Fil-American Cliff Hodge.
"Masaya naman ako sa team. So eto, magpapakundisyon lang muna sa gym. Sana kahit maka-isang taon uli," added the veteran PBA slotman, who earned the monicker "Demolition Man" during his prime at San Miguel.
Ildefonso, who turns 39 this December, averaged 2.2 points and 1.3 rebounds in nine minutes of action for Meralco this season.
He actually won eight PBA titles with San Miguel before a fall-out late in 2013 paved the way for his transfer to Meralco.
Meantime, Meralco team manager Paolo Trillo said the Bolts are not making any player movements until after the Annual PBA Rookie Draft set on 23 August 2015.
However, Trillo said they are satisfied with what Ildefonso has contributed to the team, which saw the Bolts make it to the semifinals in the Commissioner’s Cup, before pushing the Beermen to a rubber match in the quarterfinals of the Governors Cup.
"We're happy and very thankful with the work Danny has put in this season, but we also told him, if we needed him, we hope he’ll still play because for now, everything depends on the draft," explained the amiable Meralco team official.
