Alaska truly looked frightening on Halloween night as it dealt Meralco with a humiliating 41-point blowout, 105-64, at the PBA Philippine Cup on Friday.
Vic Manuel paced the Aces’ balanced attack with 17 points to go with his four rebounds and two assists.
Three other Aces churned out double digit figures to ensure Alaska’s third straight win in the season opening tournament. Dondon Hontiveros had 16 points, Chris Banchero scored 11 and Calvin Abueva had 10.
Alaska quickly piled a 9-2 lead before Hontiveros and Cyrus Baguio started connecting from rainbow territory in the second period.
The lead went up to 54-37 going to the third quarter where the Aces unleashed a torrid 17-6 run to gain a 76-52 advantage.
Alaska never looked back since then.
"It was just one of those games. We shot ball really well," said Alaska coach Alex Compton. It was just off night for Meralco and our boys just played really hard."
Cliff Hodge top scored Meralco with 16 points to go with his 11 boards. Sean Anthony added 11 markers, while Jared Dillinger contributed nine.
The 41-point loss was the worst for Meralco coach Norman Black since he started coaching in the PBA.
"I expect that team (Meralco), with the character that they have, they will bounce back strong, I really don't want to play them next," said Compton.
