Rain or Shine outlasted Meralco, 96-79, on 26 March 2014 at the Araneta Coliseum to end a 2-game skid in the PBA Commissioner's Cup.
Alex McLean scored 23 points in his farewell game for Rain or Shine, which is flying in replacement import Wayne Chism.
The Elasto Painters also got a big lift from Jeff Chan who tallied 21 points as they managed to survive Meralco’s furious comeback in the payoff period.
The Elasto Painters were up, 74-62, when the Bolts pulled within four points by unleashing a 13-4 run.
But Meralco could not sustain the incursion especially after its import Brian Butch was forced to sit out the remaining minutes due to illness. The question that was lingering in the minds of Bolts fans was, why did the management let Butch continue playing when they could have tapped their standby import, Darnell Edred Jackson.
The Elasto Painters took advantage of Butch’s absence, firing at will and scoring the final 13 points of the game.
Rain or Shine improved to 2-4 but remained second to the last, just ahead of winless GlobalPort.
The Bolts remained at the fourth place despite losing its third game in six starts.
Gary David had 20 points for Meralco, while Dillinger added 14. Butch, who had a stellar performance against Air21 last Sunday with 40 points and 31 boards, only mustered 11.
