It's beyond doubt that Barangay Ginebra San Miguel is the hottest team in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA). However, this does not mean that its players, especially superstar Mark Caguioa, will not be criticized by its thousands of fans when they blame others for their team’s poor performance.
Last 1 September 2013, the Gin Kings' were manhandled by the Alaska Aces in the dying minutes of the game enroute to their third loss in four outings. The convincing 102-99 Alaska Aces win at the Mall of Asia Arena set Caguioa in a very foul mood after the game.
The target of his ire? The referees, who according to Caguioa missed several crucial calls, including what he says should have been a foul in his final attempt to tie the game.
I think we should add three more referees. I'm not insulting them, but I think we need one more."
Unfortunately for the Ginebra’s resident franchise player, his comments were not received well by his fans and non-fans online. Some of the netizen’s comments blame Caguioa's one-sided view on things and his failure to accept more responsibility for their team's loss.
In a statement on the league's official Twitter account, the league also admonished Caguioa, saying, that "as the leader of his ballclub and a stalwart of the league," Caguioa should have "ventilated his issues to the league office directly for proper remedial action."

The league has already announced on 3 September 2013 that it has fined Caguioa PhP 20,000 for "tweeting and issuing statements to media critical of officiating and considered inimical to the interest of the PBA."
"He's right about bad officiating in the PBA, but he's wrong on the non-call in his shot. As he said, let the players win the game. You dont call a foul in that situation where there was no clear contact."

"sus. if you really are an "MVP-caliber" player that many blind fans and media men suggest, then you should have known better in that type of situation. final shot of the game tpos ife-fake mu pa para mka-fish ng foul? ang sabe mu ayaw mu na refs ang magdecide ng game? that's what happened. hndi nila tinawag ung foul 1. kc you're the one who initiated the contact and 2. kc sila ang magdedecide ng game nun kung sakali, w/c is ayaw mung mangyari db?"

"Wala namang pagbabago kaya dapat makasanayan na nila na sometimes you get the call, sometimes you wont. Sometimes call favors you, sometimes it wont. Remember coach Guiao lines " ngayon ka pa tumawag ulol "? They should accept the reality that there is something wrong with our referees and they are not good enough to handle a decent game. So they should just play and wish that next time, bad call will favor them."

"Human error is part of the game, even if they are not errors to begin with."
- Jephthah San Pedro
"Breaks of the Game" ang tawag dyan Mr. Caguioa, wag kang sore loser..."
