Bolts' EASL Campaign Starts On 22 October

The Meralco Bolts are in full-swing preparing for the East Asia Super League (EASL), especially now that their shedule showed that begin their campaign in the home-and-away Season 3 with two road games.

The Bolts kick off their EASL season 3 campaign against Japan B. League powerhouse Ryukyu Golden Kings on 22 October at the Okinawa Arena.

After the Golden Kings, the Bolts travel to Taiwan on 2 November to face off with the Taoyuan Pilots at the Taoyuan Arena.

The third season of the fastest-growing basketball league in Asia begins on 8 October.

The Bolts are bracketed together at Group B with the Pilots from Taiwan, the Golden Kings, along with the Macao Black Bears, who just last July 30 played during the send-off game for Gilas at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Meralco failed to reach the Final Four during the regional tournament’s first two home-and-away seasons.

But this time around, the team is leaving no stones unturned in its bid to come out with a worthy showing.

In fact, TNT and its longtime corporate rival San Miguel Corp. threw its full blanket support at Meralco’s EASL championship bid after lending Rondae Hollis-Jefferson and Justin Brownlee, two of the PBA’s most explosive imports to serve as the Bolts’ reinforcements for the tournament.

Meralco active consultant Nenad Vucinic raved about Brownlee’s versatility, which could easily benefit the Bolts.

"JB is a very versatile and experienced player that is known for making a huge difference for the team he plays," Vucinic told The Manila Times. "[He’s got the] biggest skills, smarts and experience with ability to make big plays is what makes him a champion."

Brownlee has won six PBA titles since arriving in 2016 where he has played only for Barangay Ginebra.
