Poligrates Now a Sorento

Rudy Lingganay
For those who were surprised to see a Cebuano hotshot Eliud Poligrates in Kia Sorento uniform last 3 December 2014 against Meralco Bolts, the transfer was facilitated quietly a week before in exchange for Rudy Lingganay (pictured above).

The new recruit from NLEX Road Warriors had an impressive debut for Kia, as he netted 11 points, dished out four assists and had two steals in more than 21 minutes off the bench. He was also instrumental in helping coach Manny Pacquiao’s squad overcome the 22-point Meralco lead, but fell short in producing an upset.

The sophomore Poligrates, who split time last season between Talk ’N Text and the former- Air21 Express, has a career average of 4.15 points, 1.48 rebounds and 0.7 assists over 12.18 minutes. However, he hasn’t seen a single minute of action this season until he transferred to Kia.

Lingganay, on the other hand, had been one of the team’s better performers, norming 7.43 points, 2.43 rebounds and 2.43 assists in 19.14 minutes. However, he had been deactivated for their past two games, spending time on the UFAWR2S and Injured/Reserve lists.

The Road Warriors may be looking for a more steady back-up point guard behind Jonas Villanueva. They currently give Pamboy Raymundo and Wynne Arboleda minutes.

The newly acquired NLEX guard, however, admitted he left KIA with a heavy heart, especially with rumors floating around of his supposed involvement in game-fixing shortly after a bad performance in the Sorento's 71-87 drubbing at the hands of Barako Bull last 16 November 2014.

"Feeling ko may naninira sa amin ni Hans (Thiele) kasi dun sa importanteng laro namin against Barako Bull, nagkataon na masama laro namin," Lingganay told Spin.ph.

As for Kia, which hasn’t won since opening day, Poligrates could be the take-charge player they’re looking for, someone who can play well after getting buried on another team’s bench.
