Interview with K-Will (3 August 2009)

Kelly Williams Interview
In an exclusive interview with Dennis Principe of www.sportsnews.ph during his first practice with the team after more than 3 months, Sta. Lucia Realtors marquee player Kelly Williams spoke candidly about his excitement to be able to play again and meet the new rookies and free-agents.

He also talked about the disease that caused his platelets to drop and forced him to miss the games after the PBA All-Stars last April. He was diagnosed with immune thrombocycotopenic purpura, a disease that caused his platelets to drop. Platelets are tiny particles in the human blood system.

The 2008 Most Valuable Player (MVP) and the 2007 Rookie of the Year (ROY) explained that he gained some weight as a result of the drug prednisone, a steroid that suppresses his immune system. The medication allowed his platelets to increase, but it was not enough for him to resume playing at 100 percent.

Fortunately for Williams, his body has been responding positively to his medication, allowing his platelets to go back to normal and eliminate the risk of bleeding or bruising during games.

Williams, likewise, thank all his friends, especially his brother-in-law and possibly his teammate in the Realtors' bench, Charles Waters, for helping him out while he was still trying to recover from his illness. Waters, a native of Angeles City, was picked by the Realtors at No. 17 during the PBA Annual Draft last 2 August 2009.

Here is the complete coverage of that interview:
