RHJ Believes Understanding His Teammates' Need Is His Advantage

Brownlee and RHJ
Rondae Hollis-Jefferson is thrilled to have long-time rival Justin Brownlee as Meralco Bolts teammate in the East Asia Super League (EASL).

The Bolts came up with the idea of pairing Hollis-Jefferson with Brownlee in the hope to figure prominently, and possibly contend for the championship in the EASL.

The two stars have met three times in the PBA Finals with the Hollis-Jefferson winning all those matchups.

"I think that the amount of time I spent watching JB and the amount of time I've watched the guys of Meralco, I think that's what it boils down to, being a student of the game. I tend to look at myself like that.

"So understanding where guys thrive at, how to put them in the best situations to be successful, I think will help us in the EASL. It's about which way will I have to turn. I'm sure you guys will see a different side of me versus, oh, I've got to go get 35 or something to help us win, when it's like, JB can get 35," Hollis-Jefferson said.

"For me, it's more so about setting guys up, putting guys in the right position to make sure it's the easiest two points or the easiest three points they've ever gotten," he added.

Meralco will be facing the Ryukyu Golden Kings of the Japan B.League, Taoyuan Pilots from Taiwan and the Macau Black Bears in Group B where the two top spots will advance to the six-team playoffs.

To make sure they have a strong shot in the EASL, the Bolts have also added Puerto Rican big man Ismael Romero and, reportedly, Iranian guard Sina Vahedi to bolster the PBA core powered by Chris Newsome, Cliff Hodge, Bong Quinto, Chris Banchero and Allein Maliksi.

Meralco opens its campaign on 22 October in Okinawa, Japan against Ryukyu
