After helping bring championship to the UP Fighting Maroons in the Season 87 of the UAAP, Quentin Millora-Brown (QMB) is predictably becoming a hot commodity.
The 6-foot-10, 265-pound center, who averaged 14 points, 9 rebounds and 2.3 assists in the three-game finals series, was expected to be picked number one in the 2025 PBA Draft. However, this is not going to happen.
"Quentin Millora-Brown will not enter his name in this year's PBA draft," his American agent, Tod Seidel, told Homer Sayson of Spin.ph last 22 July.
Reports revealed that the center is getting offers to play overseas including the prestigious Japan B.League. The PBA is still an option, but salary can be a hindrance.
Even if he is taken among the Top 3 in the Rookie Draft, as expected, league rules dictate that the team which picks him can only pay the max contract of PhP 450,000 a month for at least two years.
Based on his size, skillset, and credentials - which include US NCAA Division 1 action plus a 'chip in the increasingly popular UAAP - QMB can easily command a minimum price tag of uS$ 25,000 a month in the international scene.
To put that in perspective, June Mar Fajardo is reportedly making PhP 20 to PhP 30 million a year in the PBA while the top Asian imports in Japan make up to US$ 60,000 a month. In time, QMB's pay scale will be in that province.
And here's another obstacle for the PBA.
Based on the current draft order, QMB is increasingly likely to fall on the lap of either Terrafirma or Blackwater, sorry franchises with a notorious history of losing.
Having already played for glamour programs such as Vanderbilt, Citadel and UP, it's a fair assumption for the gentle giant Fil-Am to would rather attach his name to a winning brand.
So what's next for the gentle, affable giant?
The short-term plan is to play for the Macau Black Bears in a pocket tournament in China, a stint that will include a friendly match against Gilas Pilipimas this coming 28 July at the Araneta Coliseum.
