After winning his first PBA championship with the Meralco Bolts, Chris Newsome is choosing to let the management take the lead on his contract situation as his current deal nears its end.
In an interview with DWAR Abante Radyo’s Sports Now program, the Gilas Pilipinas mainstay expressed nothing but gratitude for the team that drafted him in 2015.
"Meralco has been very good to me from my years in the PBA. They have done a lot for me; they have given me an opportunity that I needed," said Newsome. "As far as my contract goes, out of respect to them, I will let them decide what they want to do first, and then we will take it from there."
The 33-year-old guard emphasized that he has no issues with his current deal and is simply focused on finishing strong in the ongoing Philippine Cup.
"After taking the championship, it has been a great run so far. We were able to go internationally to represent this organization," he added. "I will leave it up to the management as to what they want to do."
Newsome’s contract with Meralco is set to expire at the end of the current PBA conference.
