After SGA Stint, Brickman And Fenner Will Focus On The PBA Draft

The Filipino-American duo Jason Brickman and DJ Fenner have their sights set on the PBA Season 50 Draft by the end of their forthcoming Strong Group-Pilipinas stint.

Brickman, a 33-year-old San Antonio native, is out for a second shot to take his act to Asia’s oldest pro league after previously playing for the Kaohshiung Alphas in Taiwan’s T1 League from 2021 to 2024.

The 6-foot guard was ruled ineligible at the last minute in 2021 due to incomplete submission of documentary requirements as a Fil-foreign player.

Through it all, though, Brickman has made sure to stay in top shape and get all the game time he can before his PBA dream takes flight once more.

"I've been playing with Abra in the MPBL and I was planning to enter this year’s PBA Draft, so we’ll see how everything happens," Brickman said.

"I’m gonna see what happens after this tournament, but obviously I wanna play here in the Philippines. I’m open to any opportunity after this."

For his part, 31-year-old Fenner said playing in the PBA would be the opportunity of a lifetime to honor the Filipino heritage of his grandparents.

"My lolo is from Malabon and my lola is from Rizal. I’m really hoping that the Philippines holds the future for me and my family where it’s not just 10 days in the summer," the 6-foot-5 playmaker said.

"Right now, I’m just taking it day-by-day. Making sure that I take care of my body and make sure that I think about my family," he said.

"I have three kids and a wife. Everything that I’m doing is based on what’s best for them and not just my basketball career."

Before joining SGA, Fenner first made waves in Europe when he signed for five-time Hungarian champion club Alba Fehérvár in 2017.

Now, he will join forces once more with Brickman to bolster Strong Group-Pilipinas' title defense in the 44th William Jones Cup from July 12 to 20.
