Results of the PBA Expansion Draft

Dispersal Draft Press Conference
The Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) just finished holding the Dispersal Draft for the two new teams, Kia Motors and Blackwater Sports, without much fanfare. For whatever reason, the event was held behind closed doors at the Microtel Hotel in Acropolis, Libis, Quezon City.

After the meeting, a press conference was held to announce the decision of the two teams. Initially, the PBA asked both expansion teams to come up with their list of 12 most preferred players from the pool. Players who were appeared on both list will be returned to the pool and give the two teams a chance to pick them.

The first pick went to Blackwater Sports and they did not waste time in picking the veteran slotman from Meralco Bolts, Danny Ildefonso.

Kia Sports, on the other hand, picked Reil Cervantes in what was considered as a tactical move since he was also on the wish list of Blackwater. The reed-thin forward is a mainstay of the Blackwater team in the D-League.

The complete unofficial lists for the two teams are as follows:

Kia Motors:
  1. Reil Cervantes
  2. Mike Burtscher
  3. Hans Thiele
  4. Alvin Padilla
  5. Jai Reyes
  6. Paul Sanga
  7. Angelus Raymundo
  8. Eder Saldua
  9. Nick Belasco
  10. LA Revilla
  11. Joshua Webb
  12. Richard Alonzo
Blackwater Sports:
  1. Danny Ildefonso
  2. Alex Nuyles
  3. JR Cawaling
  4. Eddie Laure
  5. Bryan Faundo
  6. JP Erram
  7. Paul Artadi
  8. Gilbert Bulawan
  9. Bam Gamalinda
  10. Chris Timberlake
  11. Norman Gonzales
  12. Rob Celiz
The question now is why is it the some of the big names earlier indicated to have been put in the expansion pool not in the list? Worth noting are the absence of Larry Rodriguez, Isaac Holstein, Ronnie Matias, Bonbon Custodio, Jason Deutchman and Ryan Buenafe.

Both expansion teams will assume the pacts of their choices who are currently under contract with their original squads while the free agents will have until September to negotiate for their deals.

Kia and Blackwater will also have the 11th and 12th overall picks, respectively, in the coming PBA Rookie Draft on 24 August 2014.
