Bolts Acquire Chris Timberlake

Chris Timberlake
Meralco Bolts just acquire point guard Chris Timberlake from the free-agent pool. The move was made to fill in the void left by Chris Ross who will be out for at least the next six months due to an ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) tear suffered in practice a few days back.

"The injury to Chris Ross left us scampering for a point guard," said Meralco coach Ryan Gregorio.

The 2009 seventh pick by the Derby Ace, Timberlake was relegated to the unrestricted free agent pool after the first conference despite being a one-time Philippines Basketball League (PBL) Finals Most Valuable Player (MVP) awardee.

The product of University of North Florida competed in the 2009 Flex Unity Cup in the amateurs where he suited up for the Oracle Titans. He helped the squad capture their 7th straight PBL Championship and was honored as with a Finals MVP trophy.

He previously played for the Toyota Sparks, also in the PBL during the Flex Linoleum Cup. However, after they failed to advance, the team decided to take a hiatus for the next conference and allowed Timberlake to play with the Titans.

Timberlake attended the University of North Florida (UNF) under a full athletic scholarship under Head Coach Matt Kilcullen. He started as point guard in all 4 years and captain of the team in the last 2 years.

His personal achievements at UNF include holding the school records for total number of games played, total number of games started, total number of minutes played, total number of career steals, total number of career 3-points made, total number of 3-points attempted, second in career assists and 4th player to be inducted into the 1000 points club.

in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA), Timberlake was not really given enough playing time and only played 38 games since being drafted. He hopes that he can show his true worth with the Meralco Bolts.
