What Do We Expect from Onuaku?

Onuaku
The defending champion San Miguel Beer is expected to dominate the 2018 Honda PBA Commissioner's Cup as it tries to inch closer to winning a second Grand Slam title this season.

The Beermen are in an even better position to realize that dream, now that Fil-German rookie big man Christian Standhardinger will be beefing the team up when the mid-season conference kicks off on 22 April 2018 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

But the Meralco Bolts is determined to prevent that from happening by bring their old reliable import who is are already familiar with the PBA brand of play.

The wide-bodied and muscular Arinze Onuaku is back and he has one clear mission: end the Bolts' title-less campaign since the franchise joined the league in 2010.

Onuaku, a power-playing big man out of Syracuse, averaged 18.7 points, 17.3 rebounds and 1.5 blocks to earn 2016 Commissioner's Cup Best Import honors, while steering the Bolts to a semifinal finish.

Onuaku can easily plug the hole in the middle for Meralco, which lacks inside presence, and can gets majority of his shots near the basket.

His supporting cast includes a young core of Baser Amer, Chris Newsome and tested veterans like Cliff Hodge and Reynel Hugnatan. Ranidel de Ocampo will probably join after a month from the opening tip off after suffering an injury during practice.
