PBA Refs In SMB's Back Pocket?

Donte Greene
Did a PBA import confirmed what everyone has suspected all along? It's probably true that the PBA has really gone to the dogs and only those with deep pockets can secure a ring or even a grand slam.

This was the observation after Talk 'N Text Katropa's import, Donte Greene, was interviewed after their 112-103 win against the San Miguel Beermen last 5 May 2017 in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup.

It all started when reporters interviewed Greene about the trash talking that happened in the game against Charles Rhodes. Greene push back any attempt to intimidate him by putting up 41 points and 21 boards that negated Rhodes’ 43 points and eight rebounds for the Beermen.

"Charles, I guess he feels like he's a top dog out here," Greene said. "He plays on the best team so you know, he wants to talk his trash but I told him I'm not the one. I do this for a living, literally, and I take on all challenges.

"I love it when guys get to talking and he wanted me to come play him, I came and played him, blocked his shot and he stopped talking after that,” he added. “I think we both respect each other and he knows it's all in the game. It was all good fun."

Greene also shrugged off Rhodes’ claim that the TNT import was "scared to guard me," leaving Greene fresher to score the points late in TNT's win.

"No I wasn't scared to guard him," Greene insisted. "He plays for San Miguel, so you know, he has the refs in his back pocket. There's no point trying to go man up with him."

"I guarded him when I needed to guard him," he added. "And I blocked his shot so he can have that, and think about that and hopefully we'll see him in the playoffs."

Did Greene just echo what everyone has been saying all along? Nobody really knows, but one thing is clear: This will probably cost him some fine if Commissioner Andres "Chito" Narvasa gets a hold of the transcript of the interview.

It was alleged that Commissioner Narvasa was a former official of the San Miguel Corporation.
