No More Dunigan For Meralco

Dunigan to Ginebra
If reports are true, prolific import Michael Dunigan will not be suiting up for the Meralco Bolts on 27 January 2015 at the start of the PBA Commissioner's Cup. Instead, the 25-year old returning import will don the Barangay Ginebra uniform, Meralco's first game opponent.

Adding color to the underhanded move by the Gin Kings is the allegation a few years ago that Barangay Ginebra also tried to pry another import from the Bolts after they made the first step in the negotiation. Darnell Edred Jackson was expected to replace Brian Butch in the same conference last year.

Fortunately, Meralco retained Jackson to end their unsuccessful campaign, while Ginebra had to contend with the undersized Gabe Freeman as a replacement for Leon Rodgers. In the case of Dunigan, Ginebra appears to have the upper hand.

Gin Kings team manager Alfrancis Chua said Dunigan, who is officially measured at 6-8 13/16, will be arriving either later in the week, just shortly after wrapping up his stint in the NBA D-League Showcase.

Chua added that Dunigan’s size, energy and defensive presence are just some of the things they need to revive a ballclub that is in search for a first league championship in seven years.

"He (Dunigan) already signed the contract," Chua told sportswriters, just before the start of Game Six of the PBA Philippine Cup Finals last 18 January 2015.
