Miranda for Mercado

There was a report that Globalport and Barako Bull finalized last 29 December a one-on-one trade involving guards Solomon Mercado and Dennis Miranda.

Sources said that the two teams were still clearing a few matters before signing the trade papers, which will then be forwarded to the PBA Commissioner’s Office for approval.

This is the second time this season that Mercado has been moved from one team to another after he was shipped by San Miguel Beer to Globalport for Alex Cabagnot.

It will be recalled that Mercado, then with San Miguel, was supposed to be traded to GlobalPort for Cabagnot then shipped straight to Barako Bull in exchange for Miranda in a deal sealed last 10 December.

However, the deal was shot down by PBA commissioner Chito Salud when the parties insisted on including rookie twins Anthony (GlobalPort) and David (SMB) Semerad in the transaction.

In the end, SMB and GlobalPort settled for the straight Cabagnot-Mercado swap. This was the very reason Miranda, who had already been informed about the trade the night before, was left stunned when he was told that he was staying put at Barako Bull.
