Ildefonso, David, Walker and Espinas Fined

Ildefonso-David Fined
The Meralco Bolts has not yet started their campaign for a possible crown in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) season ending Governor's Cup, but this early they have to pay some heavy fines.

Two-time PBA MVP and Meralco veteran Danny Ildefonso and teammate Gary David will be paying PhP 20,000 each for their role in the scuffle that marred their tune-up game against the Alaska Aces last 13 May 2014.

Alaska import Bill Walker was also slapped with PhP 20,000 fine for "court misdemeanor and misconduct." Alaska forward Gabby Espinas was handed a PhP 5,000 penalty by PBA Commissioner Chito Salud, but it is not clear if it was because of his shouting match with the Bolts' James Sena.

Ildefonso and Walker were involved in a scuffle during the 7:13 mark of the fourth period of the Meralco-Alaska game. The 6-5 former MVP claimed he was punched in the stomach by Walker, who also threw the ball at the Meralco big man. David then came out of nowhere and sneaked in a punch to the face of Walker, before cooler heads intervened at the Meralco gym.

"I don’t think anybody should get suspended for this. This is an incident that happened because of the heat of the moment. Hopefully we can get past this," said Walker, a former New York Knick, who once figured in a scuffle with Kevin Garnett in the NBA.

Walker admits he doesn't shy away from physicality, but David maintained the import's play sometimes borders on the rough and dirty.

"Nananakit din talaga siya, kaso ako binibira niya. Hindi siya depensa eh, may halong pananakit," said David. "Yung kay Danny I nga, kakapasok lang 'nun, binigyan niya agad sa sikmura, kaya lumala yung sitwasyon.”

Meralco won that game, 110-103 behind import Terrence Williams' 10 three-point shots.
