Fight Marred Bolts-Aces Tune-Up Match

Ildefonso and Walker Fight
If you think that the Meralco Bolts have gotten over their disastrous Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Commissioner Cup campaign, then think again. It appears that after they got ambushed by the Rain or Shine Elastopainters in game 2 and 3 of their best-of-three semifinals pairing, the Bolts are raring to go to the battlefield again.

During their tune-up match against the Alaska Aces in preparation for next week's Governor's Cup, the Bolts got too eager and too hot to settle the match early that it led to some tussling, punching and pushing.

Witnesses and observers who took a break on 13 May 2014 and troop to a free basketball game at the Meralco Gym in Ortigas reported that Alaska import Bill Walker and Meralco Bolts veteran forward Danny Ildefonso figured in a tussle early in the fourth quarter. The match featured a lot of physical plays and trash talking despite the clear domination of the Bolts from the start.

A fight ensued after Ildefonso appeared to have hit Walker with an elbow while trying to set a pick, prompting the Alaska import to respond by throwing the ball at the Bolts veteran. The veteran from Pampanga retaliated by throwing a punch at Walker before players and officials from both sides spilled onto the court to break up the fight.

Witnesses also saw Meralco gunner Gary David trying to sneak in a punch at Walker before cooler heads prevailed.

It was not clear if the game was finished, but Meralco was comfortably ahead, 100-84, with 7:13 to go when the heated incident happened.
