Bolts 68, Texters 91

Texters
Talk 'N Text extended its winning streak to 5 games by crushing Meralco in the PBA Commissioner's Cup at the Cuneta Astrodome on Friday (21 March 2014).

The Tropang Texters limited the Bolts' scoring en route to a 91-68 win to remain atop the standings.

Meralco's 68-point output turned out to be the franchise’s record lowest in any import-laden conference.

"Today was a good example of a very good defensive effort in our part," said Talk ‘N Text coach Noman Black in the league’s official website.

"Our defensive game plan is a little complicated because of the talent of Brian Butch, so we had to change our game plan for him. And I thought, my players did an excellent job on executing what we wanted to get done today defensively, which was basically try to control Gary David, and at the same time, limit the production of the import," he added.

The Texters held the usually explosive David to just 8 points. They were also successful in holding Brian Butch scoreless in the final quarter.

At the other end of the floor, Talk ‘N Text got consistent scoring from 5 players.

Ranidel de Ocampo and Jayson Castro tallied 15 and 14 points, respectively. Fonacier added 14, while import Richard Howell scored 13. Harvey Carey, for his part, churned out 11 points.

Meralco was leading early in the first quarter, 12-4, but Fonacier and Castro pushed Talk ‘N Text ahead, 28-24.

The Bolts tied the scores 33-all midway the second canto but they were grossly outshot in the third frame.

The Tropang Texters continued to pounce on the Bolts, even erecting leads as big as 24 point numerous times in the payoff period.

Butch finished the game with 16 points, while John Wilson was the only other Bolt that tallied a double figure with 11 points.

  1. now doubting on brian butch capabilities & leadership, must be more aggresive and phisical the whole 48mins, score from the inside, get more fouls from the opposing teams, have an intimidating presence from the inside, block & alter some shots, avoid grappling but instead use his height to the max in positioning and getting those rebounds, and stop too much acting but focus more on winning games. mental toughness man, mental toughness.... you need mental toughness... the team depends so much from you, specially in the PAINT

  3. Every time the Bolts play their sister team, I always had this doubt on whether they are really playing to win. If my memory serves me right, since the Bolts join the league 4 years ago, they only defeated the Texters twice.
