Meralco Bolts will start its campaign for the All-Filipino crown in the 37th Philippine Basketball Association by going against its sister team, Talk 'N Text Tropang Texters.
Macmac Cardona, Sol Mercado, Nelbert Omolon, Gabby Espinas and Asi Taulava will be the main cogs for the Bolts, while the Tropang Texters will be missing the services of their main players who were tapped to boost the Philippine National team.
Tropang Texters did not overhaul their line-up after coming close to winning the Grand Slam honors last season, while Meralco took in several players from the free agency pool during the off season and picked lowpost standouts Jason Ballesteros and Gilbert Bulawan from the 2011 draft. Together with those acquired from the trade, Meralco is hoping to reach the Finals for the first time since acquiring the franchise from the defunct Sta. Lucia Realtors.
It will be a battle between two contrasting styles, with both head coaches missing their first game for the season. Coach Chot Reyes of Talk 'N Text and coach Ryan Gregorio are with Smart Gilas-Pilipinas campaigning in the FIBA-Asia championship in Wuhan, China for two weeks. The teams respective assistant coaches will handle the reigns for now.
